From the personal to the professional: Looking inward, I see you

In the spirit of the authenticity I like to cultivate in my business and with my clients, I wanted to share an experience from my personal life that has had a big impact on my work. I truly feel that whenever life hands me a challenge, or new experience - it enriches and deepens my understanding of myself and therefore of human being and translates into my work with clients. A good example of this was that although I had worked with many clients who had lost their parents, losing my own dad 5 years ago gave me a whole new depth of understanding and changed the way I hold space for grieving clients forever.

Another major life event with major impact happened just about a year ago when I left my partner of 12 years and father of 2 children. It has been a journey and process on multiple levels, as I'm sure you can imagine if you haven't experienced anything similar.

After specializing in Stepmotherhood, working with couples, singles, people struggling in their relationships, people going through divorces or on the other side of one throughout the years this personal experience has given me a whole new perspective! It has been so interesting to listen and support people with a whole new level of clarity and understanding.

Leaving a long-term partnership with children involved takes a massive amount of confidence, support, hope, desire, and work. Making it to the other side has shown me how worthwhile it is when we decide to live in alignment with our truest selves. It doesn't mean or make life easy, simple, or free from suffering as I expected at first, but it does give a sense of freedom, relief, authenticity and empowerment.

I don't think we get to make choices to create an easy life free from suffering. I think we make choices as best we can in every moment. Sometimes we get stuck places for a long time - whether that be in a relationship with another person, a relationship with ourselves, or a circumstance that isn't necessarily working. I've learned not to judge or wish for anything different for people in those places. At the same time, healthy aligned change starts with awareness and honesty.

Increasing our self-awareness is always possible. It takes work, and courage, but I truly believe will always lead us to a more authentic place sooner or later. And the more authentic we can be, the more true, healthy connections we can cultivate. We only get one life, after all. Why not dismantle any harmful programming and see what we can do to get closer to who we are meant to be?
